The objective of the Nordmark Collagenase project is to establish Clostridium fermentation solely on plant-derived media for the production of collagenase and to develop a stable formulation. In a first stage, suitable bacterial strains were isolated from the environment, screened and characterised on a wide variety of culture media. This project is intended to create the essential prerequisites for the development of new collagenase based active pharmaceutical ingredients.

This sophisticated project was supported by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung, BMBF) within the scope of the “KMU-innovativ” programme for the promotion of cutting edge research in small and medium sized companies (SMEs).
